List of Nutrients in Food

nutritious food

A health-conscious person knows that hitting a gym isn’t enough to maintain the energy of the body while burning calories. Neither undergoing inter-mitten fat diets will help one to get a healthy chiselled body. But, healthy nutritious food with proper exercise helps in maintaining a good healthy body in the long run.

why is nutritious food important

The cardinal question is, why nutritious food is important? What are the nutrients in the food that we consume? The questions might seem simple, but little negligence with nutrients in our body can have a heinous impact on it.

Why nutritious food is important?

Nutrients are the compounds in foods that help us to maintain our health while providing us with energy. They are the building blocks that help the body to repair and grow substances that are necessary to regulate chemical processes within the body, thus ensuring healthy growth in our personal life.

What are the 7 nutrients in food?

7 nutrients in food

The seven essential nutrients are:

  • Carbohydrates.
  • Lipids/ fat.
  • Protein.
  • Fibre.
  • Vitamins.
  • Minerals.
  • Water.

These above nutrients are categorised further as macronutrients or micronutrients based on the amount of their requirement in the body. The consumption of macronutrients in the body is vast, and they include carbohydrates, protein, fats, fibre, and water. And micronutrients are consumed in small quantities like vitamins and minerals.

The macronutrients excluding fibre and water provide structural materials and energy. That is the amino acids from which proteins are built and the lipids from which cell membranes and signalling molecules are built help in generating internal energy. And this energy is calculated in terms of Joules or Kilocalories or Calories. According to USDA, an average adult should consume Calories around 10-35% from proteins, 45-65 % from carbohydrates, and 25-35% from fats per day.

The micronutrients like vitamins and minerals do not just provide energy to the body, but also maintain balanced nutrition in the body. The third class of dietary material is fibre, such as cellulose; it helps in both mechanical and biochemical reactions in the manner of instigating proper digestion.

healthy nutrition from food

Healthy nutrition must include all nutrients in the form of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, lean proteins, meat, eggs, and dairy. In the process of calculating calorie intakes, do not forget water, as our body is formulated over 60% by water. Drinking enough water keeps your body hydrated, maintains body temperature, and helps in keeping the vital organs and skin healthy. Thus, try drinking at least 3 litres of water per day.

Conclusion

So, the cornerstone to a healthy nutritional diet is to understand the core of food and replace the processed foods with real foods. So, choose food products that are organic, good, and understand the nutrient values that they add up to your body. Because eating food that is as close as possible to the way nature made it can make a huge difference to the way you think, look, and feel.
